Students – Your Community Needs Your Service!
This program is for students at Channahon Jr. High, Minooka Jr. High, and Minooka Community High School that need community service hours for school.
During the large amount of snowfall, many of our fire hydrants have been covered with snow. We need assistance in keeping the hydrants clear. Along with the fire hydrants, the extreme cold and snow creates a hazard for senior citizens. They need assistance in removing snow from their driveways and walkways.
Please help your community! In return for shoveling a driveway (along with the sidewalk leading to the door) or fire hydrants in the Channahon or Minooka Community, we will provide one hour of community service.
One driveway with sidewalk = 1.5 service hours -or- Four(4) fire hydrants = 1 service hour
To get your hours:
Fire hydrants-
- Fire hydrants need a 3-5 foot area cleared all the way around plus a path leading from the largest port to the street.
- Submit a “selfie” before and after picture at each fire hydrant that you shovel to the online form. One hydrant per online form. You will be able to submit more than one form.
- Give the approximate address of the hydrant. You can use the house number that is the closest to the hydrant, along with street name and town.
- After the online form is complete and service has been verified, we will email you the appropriate documentation that you have provided the community service.
Driveways-
- You must have permission from the homeowner.
- Submit a “selfie” before and after picture of each driveway that you shovel to the online form. One driveway per form. You will be able to submit more than one form.
- Give the homeowner’s name and address (house number, street, and town) for each driveway cleared.
- After the online form is complete and service has been verified, we will email you the appropriate documentation that you have provided the community service.
